Our Host Committee welcomes you to the 65th annual Eastern Region APPA conference in Providence, Rhode Island! We have continued the long-standing track record of planning successful annual conferences for our region. With the educational opportunities and events we have planned, we know you will not only enjoy your time in this “Creative Capital” but also gain valuable knowledge and skills that you can use in your day-to-day role on your campus, as well as meet many interesting individuals who can become valuable friends and professional resources.
Rhode Island may be the smallest state in the nation but they say that great things come in small packages. The City of Providence has the perfect amenities for a conference like ERAPPA, including a first-class convention center located in the heart of the city and a variety of shops, restaurants, and most importantly, our host hotel – The Omni Providence – closely connected!
Providence is also home to many academic institutions including Brown University, Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), Community College of Rhode Island, Providence College, Johnson & Wales University, Rhode Island College, and the University of Rhode Island. We hope that you will have the chance to visit some of these institutions while you are in town!
In addition to first class amenities and academic institutions, we would be remiss to not highlight the expansive history that can be found in Providence along with the some of the top rated restaurants in the country! It is a renowned culinary destination you will not want to miss! We invite you to explore the area before, during, and after the conference -- you will not be disappointed!
Our host committee has worked diligently to develop a program to showcase some of the best professional development opportunities and networking experiences in preparation for our ever-changing academic environment. Our goal is to make sure each person attending this conference returns back to their institutions refreshed with new ideas along with the skills and tools to implement them. Our conference theme “Lighting Our Future” supports this challenge in building a program that will help light the way.
Our keynote speaker, Bob Kelleher, will help guide us through “Flipping the Switch to Fully Engaged Employees”. His vast knowledge on engaging workforces is one that will light up ways to help us develop the members on our teams. Keeping teams engaged and dedicated is a critical element to every institution now and in planning for the future.
Our plenary speaker, Dr. Edward Hallowell, is an entertaining and interesting specialist who will help us better understand and deal with the multiple distractions we face on a day-to-day basis. His talk “Crazy Busy” will broaden our capabilities to manage all of the distractions that come our way while still accomplishing our daily goals. Technology has and will continue to change our world significantly. Dr. Hallowell will help us refocus so we can become more efficient, less stressed, and, hopefully, less crazy busy!
As you can tell, there is much to be excited for this Fall! Unique opportunities to learn something new, network with peers and friends, meet and learn from our business partners in our Hall of Resources, and experience events only found in Providence, such as the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular at the Roger Williams Zoo! ERAPPA and Providence have a lot to offer and we predict after you leave ERAPPA 2015, you’ll be engaged and ready to light up your own future!
See you in Providence!
